Curt Schnecker (born November 1, 1934 in Graz ) is an Austrian cultural functionary .

Life

He received his school education in the Styrian capital Graz, which he graduated with the Matura in 1954 . As a middle school student he took speaking, acting and guitar lessons, he belonged to the theater group “Die Spielvögel”, was also a member of the “Styrian Big Band” and was present as the “Voice of Youth” on Radio Graz .

He started his professional life in 1954, where he made it to the board of directors of the Landes-Hypothekenanstalt für Styria . From 1974 he was solely responsible for the organizer and manager for the artistic exhibition system as well as the purchase of works of art by the Landeshypothekenbank Steiermark. The art collection soon reached a stand of more than 800 exhibits. In 1984 he was admitted to the board of the Steiermärkischer Kunstverein - Werkbund and in 1999 was appointed president. It is the oldest and numerically largest association of artists and art lovers in Styria.

He is also general secretary of “Aktion Künstlerhilfe” and a member of the board of the Europazentrum Graz as well as of the Austro-Slovenian and the cultural history society at the Joanneum. It was thanks to his initiative that the Steiermärkischer Kunstverein Werkbund was the only Austrian association to be accepted into the "EURO ART" accredited by the EU in Brussels.

Under his leadership, exhibitions take place at local ( Künstlerhaus Graz and Werkbundgalerie - founded in 1994), regional (Styrian district capitals) and international (Slovenia, Hungary, Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, England, etc.). In 1999 Curt Schnecker was appointed Vice President of Euro Art . As its vice-president, he was able to realize the joint art project “Urban Space - Nature Space” in the Graz Künstlerhaus in 2003, the year of the Capital of Culture.
