Kublai Khan is an American thrash metal band from Minneapolis , Minnesota that was formed in 1984, split in 1989, and reunited in 2003.
history
The band was formed in 1984 by guitarist and singer Greg Handevidt ( Megadeth ) and guitarist Kevin Idso. After bassist Mike Liska and drummer John Fedde joined the band, various appearances followed. The band played as the opening act for bands like King Diamond , Kreator and Metal Church . The band reached a contract with New Renaissance Records and released their album Annihilation in 1987 on this label . Two years later the band broke up. Kevin Isdo used material he wrote for Kublai Khan later for his Kronk project.
In 2003 the band came together due to the upcoming re-release of the album and released a demo that same year. It is unclear whether the band is currently still active or not.
style
The band plays classic Thrash Metal, although comparisons can be drawn with bands such as Metallica , Megadeth , Paradox and Artillery . Playing the electric guitar is very reminiscent of Kirk Hammett's on Metallica's debut album Kill 'Em All .
