The Kulmer Kreuz was a Prussian war award.

Special feature and occasion of the foundation

The Kulm Cross, which is rather unusual for German medals, was collectively awarded to the members of the Russian (guard) troops who were involved in the Battle of Kulm on August 29 and 30, 1813 during the Wars of Liberation . In contrast to the usual German / Prussian bravery awards, no special personal achievement was a prerequisite for the award. Neither was there any gradation with regard to the rank . A formal foundation did not take place. The award probably goes to the personal initiative of King Friedrich Wilhelm III. back.

Insignia

The single-stage award was very similar to the Iron Cross First Class, and the way it was worn was identical. However, the obverse of the Kulmer Kreuz was smooth. The cross, which, contrary to the original plan, was not made of fabric but of sheet iron , was sewn onto the uniform using eyelets.

Award

The cross was awarded to a total of around 12,000 Russian guards. Officers received a more valuable copy in silver.
