Cultural geragogy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cultural geragogy as cultural work with the elderly includes, in analogy to the specialist discipline music geragogy , which deals with musical education in old age, tasks of cultural education (cultural education and mediation), i.e. instructing people to deal with art and culture and one's own artistic work, as well as the use of Art and culture as a means to achieve goals of general education or to deal with special aspects that enable an old age with dignity, self-determination and a high quality of life.

Cultural work with the elderly is therefore also part of successful development over the entire life span. It also includes cultural management tasks such as project management and, if necessary, fundraising and PR work. The creation of the word cultural geragogy is an analogy to the term cultural pedagogy, which is used in child and youth work. By replacing the pedagogy term with geragogy , it is emphasized that findings from gerontology are incorporated. Geragogy as a pedagogy for the elderly deals with the learning of older people, because they bring different interests, needs and learning requirements than younger age groups into learning processes. These other learning conditions require their own didactics and methodology for educational work with senior citizens , the development of which is the central task of geragogy.
