Theo Hartogh

Theo Hartogh (born 1957 in Cloppenburg ) is a German music teacher , musicologist and co-founder of music geragogy .

life and work

Theo Hartogh studied school music , piano, musicology and biology from 1977 to 1984 for teaching in Hanover and Hamburg . After his legal clerkship , he worked as a teacher in Vechta from 1984 to 1993 and directed the Quakenbrück Philharmonic Choir from 1987 to 1998. In 1998 he received his doctorate as Dr. phil. at the Technical University of Chemnitz with the subject of musical support for mentally handicapped people.

From 1993 to 2005 he was Professor of Music and Music Education and, until 2005, the last Vice Rector at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Northern Germany . After his habilitation at the University of Leipzig , he was appointed professor for music education and historical musicology at the University of Vechta in 2005 .

With his habilitation in music geragogy, he presented the first comprehensive scientific work in the newly established field of music geragogy. He is significantly involved in the development of music and cultural geragogy and is second chairman of the German Society for Music Geragogy
