The Catholic parish church of St. Martin in Sachsenried , a district of the Schwabsoien community in the Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau , was built in the middle of the 18th century using parts of the Romanesque and Gothic predecessor buildings. In the second half of the 18th century the church was decorated in the Rococo style . The church is dedicated to St. Martin of Tours .

history

The tower substructure goes back to the Romanesque predecessor church. Parts of the choir and nave walls have been preserved from the Gothic church building. In the years 1744 to 1746 the church was enlarged, in 1753/54 it was redesigned and furnished in the Rococo style from 1753 to 1761 . During the restoration in 1988, the original version from the 18th century was exposed again and partially reconstructed.

architecture

The church is a simple hall building on three axes with a slightly drawn-in, semicircular closed choir and a double gallery in the west. The choir and nave are covered by barrels with stitching caps resting on wide cornice consoles. In the southern corner of the choir rises the bell tower, on the square base of which an octagon with an onion dome is built.

Frescoes

The frescoes were made by Franz Anton Zeiller in 1753 . On the ceiling fresco in the choir you can see Maria and the patron saint of the church, Saint Martin, who intercede before the Trinity for the village of Sachsenried shown at the bottom of the picture. The nave ceiling is dedicated to the wonder of the tree of St. Martin, the apostles can be seen in the cartouches.

The church fathers are depicted on the lower gallery parapet: on the left Augustine and a boy trying to scoop out the sea with a spoon, in the middle Gregor the Great and Jerome in conversation, on the right Ambrose with a beehive. The scenes on the upper parapet, King David with the harp and Saint Cecilia at the organ, are new creations by Georg Kuttruff from 1939.

Piece

The stucco was created in 1753 by Joseph Fischer from Faulenbach near Füssen. In a stucco cartouche on the choir arch , the coats of arms of the Füssen Monastery of St. Mang and of the abbot Gallus Zeiler at the time are reminiscent of those who commissioned the Rococo furnishings.
