Sachsenried is a district of the municipality Schwabsoien in the Upper Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau .
geography
The parish village of Sachsenried is about three kilometers west of Schwabsoien on a moraine line .
The Sachsenried forest, named after the parish village, extends north of Sachsenried .
history
Sachsenried was established in the 8th century when Charlemagne built clearing settlements . The name Sachsenried comes from the Saxons who settled here .
Sachsenried was first mentioned in a document in 1059, when King Heinrich IV gave the Augsburg bishop the hunting rights.
In 1218 the parish village fell to the St. Mang monastery in Füssen.
In 1603 a description of the diocese of Augsburg mentions 33 houses, 164 inhabitants and the parish church of St. Martin in Sachsenried.
During the Thirty Years' War the plague broke out in Sachsenried , 155 of the 164 inhabitants died of the disease in 1628.
Sachsenried was an independent municipality until it was incorporated into Schwabsoien on May 1, 1978.
Attractions
The Catholic parish church of St. Martin is located in Sachsenried. The core of the late Gothic building was redesigned in the Rococo style from 1753 to 1761 .
