Kundiawa is the capital of the Chimbu Province in the highlands of Papua New Guinea . According to official figures, the city has 10,833 inhabitants and is located at an altitude of 1,530 m on the Highlands Highway , the only trunk road in the interior of the country.

Kundiawa has the Chimbu airfield with connections to Port Moresby, a police station, a bank, a hotel and a supermarket. Kundiawa is an important trading center for the population from the surrounding mountainous area. The Mount Wilhelm , the tallest mountain Papua Neuguineaser located about 30 km north of the city and can be reached from Kundiawa from.

The Kundiawa diocese has its seat in Kundiawa.
