Art in the Province
Kunst in der Provinz eV is the name of an art association founded on December 12, 1980 in the small town of Syke in Lower Saxony with more than 240 members, a platform and organizational form for artists in the area south of Bremen (in the " province ") to present their artistic work. He creates contacts among and with artists, in turn arranges exhibitions or events at which they can present their artistic work to the public. In addition, the association has set itself the goal of enriching cultural life in rural areas.
The association emerged from an "artist regulars table" that had become active in Syke and the surrounding area in connection with actions against the district reform in Lower Saxony in 1976/77. The protests of the artists in what was then the county of Hoya were directed against the dismantling / dismemberment of “their” district. The district reform was carried out against all opposition - the association "Art in the Province eV" stayed alive.
Most of the members come from the district of Diepholz and are active in the field of visual arts (painters, graphic artists , sculptors, photographers), as well as in those of the performing arts (musicians, composers, cabaret actors ) and literature (authors). Furthermore, gallery owners and cultural associations belong to the association.
The activities of the association include a variety of events at different locations, which are often carried out in cooperation with cities and municipalities, public institutions or other associations. For example, visits to workshops are organized where artists give an insight into their work, and there are also artist meetings at different locations, author readings, art exhibitions, photo meetings, music, literature and cabaret performances, as well as art tours under expert guidance.
To date, the association has awarded more than twenty art prizes for various artistic areas.
Until his death in 2001, the first chairman was Hans OE Gronau - painter, graphic artist, photographer and author of Low German works.
The current 1st chairwoman has been the cultural manager Brunhild Buhre ( Sulingen ) since 2001 .
