The Kunsthaus Mürzzuschlag , also known as kunsthaus muerz , is located at Wiener Straße 56 in the municipality of Mürzzuschlag in the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district in Styria . The Kunsthaus sees itself as a place of interdisciplinary dialogue, with the focus on music, literature, visual arts, architecture, intermedia forms and science. The former Franciscan church as part of the house is under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

The Kunsthaus emerged from the Walter Buchebner Society, which was dedicated to the memory of the writer Walter Buchebner , and is developing its effectiveness with regional and supra-regional resonance.

The building

The Franciscan monastery church was built from 1648 to 1657 with the inclusion of a remnant of the Mürzzuschlag market fortification . In the time of the Josefinism it was abandoned and later served different purposes, military accommodation, seat of handicrafts, malt drying, restaurant, table tennis hall. On the occasion of the Styrian state exhibition Sport, Sinn und Wahn , the state commissioned the construction of the art house by the architects Konrad Frey and Andreas Ortner with the support of the federal government and the involvement of the city of Mürzzuschlag . The implementation took place from 1988–1991. An extension in the form of a steel frame with a glass cover was added to the revitalized baroque old building, tilted upwards at an angle from the vertical to the street.

Furnishing

  • Since 1994 there has been a Fazioli F278 concert grand in the Kunsthaus, which is used for CD recordings and as a concert instrument.
