In 1892 the counterpart was founded in Elberfeld as the Elberfeld Museum Association . The Elberfelder were able to rent rooms in the Elberfelder Rathaus (later Old Elberfeld Rathaus ) for a permanent exhibition in the year of foundation . With the Barmer Hall of Fame, the Barmer built their own art gallery . After the unification of the two cities in 1929, the associations merged on April 21, 1946 to form the Wuppertal Art and Museum Association .
