Kurama is a platoid language within the subgroup of the Benue-Congo languages , which in turn are the largest language group in the Niger-Congo language family .

The language is spoken natively only in Nigeria , with a little over 40,000 speakers (2000 estimate). Kurama speakers can mainly be found in the northern central states of Nigeria , namely Kaduna and Kano .
