The merchant Gustav Thieme from Dortmund acquired the rights to the spring in Bornwiese and the spring at Rothen Berge zu Pömbsen in 1858. The Commandit-Gesellschaft Hermannsborner Verein operated the business until it was recognized as a stock corporation. Thieme was director here for over 50 years. He then sold the company to the landowner Hermann Böckmann, who ran the company without luck. Due to the First World War and the subsequent economic crisis, the sale of soda was almost impossible. The Böckmann family gave up in 1924 and the Barmer Ersatzkasse took over what was then Bad Hermannsborn GmbH to run a spa and recreation facility here.

The park in the valley of the Emmerkebach is about 20 hectares, around 1860 the use of the springs for drinking and bathing cures began to mud baths. The establishment of the spa gardens in neo-baroque style took place from 1924, whereby the eastern and western areas are landscaped. A small oak grove on the east side is accessed by a walkway, the under-planting consists of azaleas and rhododendrons , which offer a colorful picture in the flowering period.

The large Kurhaus was built in 1925, it is reminiscent of baroque palace buildings, the construction management was the architect Julius Beckmann from Barmen. The foundation stone was laid on May 10, 1924, the topping-out ceremony was on September 25, 1924, and the building was inaugurated on May 22, 1925. Between 200 and 300 workers were employed in the construction, heavy construction equipment was not used.

The floor plan of the central building corresponds to that of a large rural house from the Baroque period. A large reception room and garden hall form the focus, the large ceiling painting is also a listed building, the walls are clad with Caucasian walnut.

Extensions over the past few years have given the site its present-day appearance.

Since September 1, 2006, the clinic has been part of the Bad Driburg Graf von Oeynhausen-Sierstorpff group of companies under the name Park-Klinik Bad Hermannsborn . Today the clinic has 216 beds.
