The Staatliche Kurhausbad is the spa center of the Bavarian State Spa Bad Kissingen , which is centrally located in the city center . It was the largest of its kind in Europe in 1927 and is now a listed building .

history

The Staatliche Kurhausbad (Prinzregentenstrasse 6, corridor number 414) was built from 1925 according to plans by the architect Max Littmann as a three-storey three-wing building in a classicist style and commissioned on May 1, 1927. The predecessor since 1855 was a “Royal Kurhausbad” with 16 bathing cabins and two modern “douche machines”. Littmann had previously a. a. the arcade building u. a. the fountain and fountain hall , the regent building and the spa theater Bad Kissingen built on behalf of the Bavarian crown . The Kurmittelhaus, which at that time was the largest in Europe with over 100 bathing cabins, is owned by the Free State of Bavaria .

As architectural features, the lead-glazed windows in the stairwell are still preserved today, in the foyer the reddish terracotta cladding with the poem of the Bad Kissingen spa guest Joseph Victor von Scheffel and the interior walls made of Nymphenburg porcelain . Another special feature is the Roman-Irish steam bath , the warm and hot air rooms of which are lined with decorative tiles by Villeroy & Boch from 1927.

Due to falling demand, the two upper floors of the north wing were shut down years ago and in 2002 the south wing was leased to the adjacent Steigenberger Kurhaus hotel for conversion as a hotel room , which was closed in October 2010. The Kurhausbad was closed in October 2014. The Free State of Bavaria is planning to use it as an administrative seat after the renovation work has been completed.
