Kurt Axelsson (born November 10, 1941 in Rännberg , Sweden , † December 15, 1984 ) was a Swedish football player .

career

Axelsson made his debut in 1964 for GAIS Göteborg in the Allsvenskan . Despite the relegation at the end of the season, the defender remained loyal to the club and was able to create an immediate promotion as a pillar of the team. After one and a half more seasons in the Swedish first division, he moved to Belgium for Club Bruges in the summer of 1967 . Here he was one of the top performers straight away and led the club to the second championship in the club's history in 1973. Nevertheless, he left the club after six seasons and moved to the second division AS Ostend , with whom he managed to rise to the top class in his first season . After the end of his career, he went to KV Kortrijk as an assistant coach .

Axelsson made 30 international appearances for Sweden . He took part with the country selection at the 1970 World Cup, where Sweden just failed in the group stage. He was on the pitch in all three games.

In 1984 Axelsson died in a traffic accident.
