Kurt Bangert

Kurt Bangert (* 1946 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German development and poverty expert, publicist, theologian and Islam researcher.

Life

Bangert studied Protestant theology and German in Tübingen and in the USA. From 1982 to 2013 he worked in development cooperation for international non-governmental organizations. He worked for the Christoffel-Blindenmission (CBM) as program manager, regional director (for Southeast Asia and the Pacific) and for World Vision as head of communications. In 2009 he became head of research at the newly founded World Vision Institute for Research and Development. Bangert is a member of the board of directors of the Development Policy Network Hessen (EPNH) and is head of the arbitration board of the Association for Development Policy and Humanitarian Aid of German NGOs (VENRO).

Bangert is the founder and operator of the Armut.de website. He is the author and editor of numerous books, articles and specialist studies - in the areas of poverty reduction, HIV and AIDS, theology, the dialogue between religion and science and Islamic research. The publications he has edited include a. the handbook for donations and the World Vision Children's Study (2013). Among his most important works as an author are: The dream of a better world (on poverty reduction and children's rights); The reality of God. How we can believe in God in the 21st century (a modern doctrine of God); And yet it turns! (on the development of our worldview) and the research study Muhammad. A historical-critical study on the origin of Islam and its prophet , in which Bangert deals with the historicity of Muhammad. Since 2013 Bangert has been the editor of the liberal theological journal “Free Christianity” . He is also a state-certified and sworn interpreter and translator and lives in Bad Nauheim .
