Kurt Beck (ethnologist)

Kurt Beck (* 1952 in Markgröningen ) is a German ethnologist .

Life

Beck received his master's degree in ethnology in 1979, the doctorate Dr. rer. nat. 1986 and his habilitation in ethnology in 1999. From 1974 to 1986 he studied ethnology, Islamic studies , sociology and German at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . From 1980 to 1981 he was a Research Associate at the Institute for African and Asian Studies at the University of Khartoum . 1986/1994 he was an ethnological appraiser for the Reconstruction Loan Corporation . From 1987 to 1993 he was a university assistant at the Institute for Sociology at the Free University of Berlin . From 1993 to 1997 he was a research assistant in the research project Preindustrial Work within the framework of the SFB 214 Identity in Africa at the University of Bayreuth . From 1997 to 2000 he represented professorships in Bayreuth, Frankfurt am Main and Bielefeld and from 2000 to 2006 he taught as a professor of ethnology at the LMU Munich . From 2006 to 2019 he held the chair for ethnology in Bayreuth.
