Life

Kurt Berthold began training as a fencing master with Fechtmeister Fehn in Erlangen at the age of 17 and assisted in Dresden, Berlin and Budapest in the following years. Berthold was significantly involved in the development of the electronic hit display devices for foil and epee . In 1950 he enforced the approval of racket fencing in the fencing specialist group in the Bavarian Sports Teachers Association. When the Association of Fencing Masters was re-established on the occasion of the German fencing championships in Mainz in 1951, Berthold was elected first chairman. He held this office until 1973.
