Hermann Rink (2009)

Hermann Rink (born September 15, 1935 in Landau in the Palatinate ) is a German chemist and radiation biologist. From 2008 to 2011 he headed the Association of Old Corps Students.

Life

In 1954 Rink passed the Abitur at the Natural Science Gymnasium Pirmasens . He studied chemistry at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz , the University of Innsbruck and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 1963 he became a qualified chemist in Mainz. In 1967 he was awarded a Dr. rer. nat. PhD . In 1976 he completed his habilitation in radiation biochemistry / radiation biology at the medical faculty . From 1964 to 1974 Rink was a research assistant at the Institute for Biophysics in Bonn and later at the Institute for Radiation Biology. There he was in 1982 Assistant Professor , 1987 apl. Professor and finally Director of the Institute. He dealt with cell membrane and permeability changes under radiation , with cell cultures of mammals and monoclonal antibodies . In cooperation with the GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ion Research , he investigated DNA changes and mutations caused by heavy ion radiation. Together with the European Space Agency , the German Space Agency and the German Aerospace Center , he investigated cellular repair capabilities under weightlessness . The International Microgravity Laboratory (IML 2) project ran until 1994. Rink founded the Society for Biological Radiation Research .

Corps student

Hessenhaus in Mainz (2012)

Rink was active in the Corps Hassia-Gießen zu Mainz (1955) and in the Corps Gothia Innsbruck (1958). Since then he has been involved in the Kösener Seniors Convents Association . As early as the 1950s, he appeared in the debate on the order of honor. He became a member of the fencing commission , which he was to chair for 30 years. The basic decisions of the KSCV on sizes and PP suites go back to him. Retired in 2000, Rink devoted himself increasingly to student history . From 2003 to 2008 he was treasurer of the Society for Corps Student History Research . Rink served his Mainz corps from 1978 to 1988 as chairman of the old gentlemen's association and from 1993 to 2008 as chairman of the Hessenhaus Society. The 2007 Congress of Representatives of the Association of Old Corps Students (VAC) elected Hermann Rink as the first chairman of the VAC board for the period from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2011. The Corps Rhenania Bonn awarded him the ribbon in 2012. The Corps Gothia elected him an honorary member on October 17, 2015.
