Kyle Cumiskey (born December 2, 1986 in Abbotsford , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Binghamton Devils of the American Hockey League since October 2019 . With the Chicago Blackhawks , the defender won the Stanley Cup in the 2015 playoffs .
Career
The 1.78 m tall defender began his professional career with the Kelowna Rockets in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League , having previously spent a season with the Penticton Panthers in the British Columbia Hockey League . In the 2005 NHL Entry Draft , the defender was selected in the seventh round at a total of 222nd position by the Colorado Avalanche .
In the 2006/07 season the links contactors of the Avalanche in was Albany River Rats , a farm team in the American Hockey League (AHL) used, and he completed his first NHL -Inserts for the franchise from Denver . For the 2007/08 season Cumiskey was called up again in the Avalanche squad, but they sent him back after 38 missions to the Lake Erie Monsters , another farm team in the AHL.
The defender became a regular of the Avalanche in the 2009/10 season ; so he completed 61 games in the regular season, in which he scored seven goals and 20 points. In the playoffs he was eliminated with Colorado in the first round against the San Jose Sharks . Cumiskey appeared in all six games, scoring a goal and an assist. The following season Cumiskey dropped out early in the season due to a traumatic brain injury and missed his team for 34 games. After returning to the team in January 2011, the player played seven more games before whiplash and out for the remainder of the season. Before the start of the 2011/12 NHL season , the defender signed a new one-year contract with the Avalanche.
On October 8, 2011 Cumiskey was transferred to the Anaheim Ducks , the Colorado Avalanche received in return the player Jake Newton and a seven-round vote for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft . Three days later, the defender was sent to Anaheim's farm team, the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League . After Cumiskey spent the 2011/12 season exclusively in the AHL, he signed a one-year contract with MODO Hockey from the Swedish Elitserien in July 2012 .
In the summer of 2013 he joined the Anaheim Ducks , but could not prevail in their season preparation and then returned to Sweden to play another season at MODO Hockey. In July 2014, he then moved to the Chicago Blackhawks , who gave him to their farm team, the Rockford IceHogs . During the playoffs he was called back to the Blackhawks and won the Stanley Cup with the team as a result .
After the 2015/16 season, which he had spent entirely with the IceHogs in the AHL and only made 17 missions due to injury, Cumiskey moved again to Sweden and joined the Skellefteå AIK in July 2016 . There the defender was on the ice in 12 games before his contract was terminated prematurely in February 2017 due to persistent injury problems. As a result, the Canadian remained without a contract for the 2017/18 season until he was signed by the Providence Bruins from the AHL in December 2018 until the end of the season . Previously, a trial contract with the Toronto Marlies had not led to a permanent engagement. In October 2019 he finally auditioned for the Binghamton Devils .
