Life

Kurt Bischof was born in the North Bohemian glass processing center Steinschönau as the second son of the respected glass engraver August Bischof and his wife Juliana Pauline Jank. Just like his older brother Walter Bischof , after attending primary school, he continued the tradition of this glass processing family that had existed for generations and had attended the glass technical school in Haida , Bohemia , since 1943 . There he learned the trade of glass engraver. Further practical professional training took place with his father in his home workshop. There, artistically valuable figural glass engravings were carried out for the global company J. & L. Lobmeyr . After this company moved from Steinschönau to Vienna , Kurt Bischof carried out his work independently in various art studios. After 1948 he worked for the Borske Sklo company in Haida. He specialized in the engraving of portraits and produced particularly expressive engravings with several well-known artists, which were shown to the interested public as exhibits in many parts of the world.

In August 1949 she married Ilse Strobach, who also came from a family of glass refiners. Their son was born in the same year. In 1965 Kurt Bischof moved his residence to Rheinbach near Cologne, where he worked as a specialist teacher at the Rheinbach Glass School from 1966 until he left for health reasons . His goals were to maintain the level of the glass processing industry and to train the next generation.

In his free time he created numerous historical engravings based on the old tradition in his own workshop. Evidence of his work can be found in the glass museum in Rheinbach and in private ownership.
