Kurt glasses

Kurt glasses (born May 22, 1898 in Plauen , † September 20, 1976 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) was a German mechanical engineer . He was considered the "machine tool pope" of the GDR.

Glasses passed his Abitur in Plauen, served in the First World War and studied mechanical engineering at the TH Dresden from 1918 to 1928 , where he received his doctorate in 1923. In 1924 he went to industry in Chemnitz. In 1945 he was appointed head of the special design and technological office SKTB 3 in Chemnitz by the Soviet military administration in Germany . From 1952 to 1954 he was professor for machine elements at the TH Dresden. In 1954/1955 he was appointed head of the Institute for Machine Tools . In 1955, the TH Karl-Marx-Stadt appointed him professor for machine tools.

Among other things, glasses was awarded the " National Prize of the GDR III " in 1953 . Class for Science and Technology ”for the design and construction of an accuracy partial wheel milling machine, honored with the“ Patriotic Order of Merit ”in 1958 and as“ Outstanding Scientist of the People ” in the same year . In 1963 the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology awarded him an honorary doctorate and in 1969 the title of Honorary Senator .
