Kurt Kreuger (born December 22, 1913 in Stockholm , † February 22, 2005 ) was a Swedish boxer . He was European champion of amateurs in 1947 in Dublin in the featherweight division.

Career

Amateur career

Kurt Krueger started boxing as a teenager in Stockholm in 1930 . His younger brother Stig was also a boxer. Kurt Kreuger boxed at the sports club Djurgardens IF Stockholm. He became the first Swedish featherweight champion in 1938, followed by five other Swedish featherweight championship titles in 1939 and 1941 to 1944.

From 1936 Kurt Kreuger played a number of international matches for the Swedish national boxing team. He also fought against German boxers such as Alfred Graaf , Erwin Volkmar , Ludwig Petri and the Munich Utz. He was not at the start at the European Championships in 1937 and 1939, nor at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin . In 1938 Kurt Kreuger tried to qualify for the European boxing relay at a boxing tournament in Berlin, which traveled to the USA for several starts. But he lost on points in the first fight against Antoni Czortek from Poland .

In 1947, at the age of almost 34, he took part in the European Amateur Championship in Dublin . Surprisingly, he succeeded in winning the title with a victory over the Irishman Peter Maguire . Immediately after this European Championship, he represented the European boxing flags in an international match between the USA and Europe . He lost it in Chicago against Eddie Marotta on points.

Profile career

Immediately after his trip to the USA, Kurt Kreuger became a professional boxer. He played only six fights in two years, of which he won five. His most important victory was that of the Finnish master Adolf Minetti on April 10, 1949 in Örebro . He received his defeat from the Moroccan Abdelkader Ben Milond on April 9, 1948 in Stockholm. Against this boxer, who only played his second professional fight, he lost through tech. KO in the second round after being on the ground several times. Overall, Kurt Kreuger's professional career was meaningless.
