Kurt Markus (born May 9, 1897 in Mödnitz , † after 1966) was a German teacher, local history researcher, archive and monument curator and conservationist in the Torgau district .

Live and act

Kurt Markus worked as a school principal in Torgau in the Prussian province of Saxony . From 1933 Markus was a member of the SA and the NSDAP's ring of sacrifices .

Since 1920 he has been active on a voluntary basis with research on local history, customs and traditions, about which he has published several times. In 1929 he was already designated as the home nurse of the Prussian district of Torgau. In 1937 he took over the office of state archivist for the Torgau district, Torgau-Süd care district. In this area he was responsible for looking after the state and private archives. It is thanks to him that several manor archives were preserved before the destruction, including the Martinskirchen manor archive , which is now managed in the Saxony-Anhalt state archive .

He was also a nature conservation officer in the Torgau district. He held this post in the GDR for many years after the Second World War.

In 1951, together with Karl Herrmann Schmidt, the sculptor Adolf Hacker and Fritz Walther, he was involved in the reopening of the museum in Torgau, from which today's Torgau City and Cultural History Museum emerged.
