Kurt Siemers (born July 30, 1873 in Övelgönne ; † May 14, 1944 in Hamburg ) was a German merchant, shipowner and banker .

Siemers was a son of the businessman and ship owner Edmund Siemers (1840–1918), owner of the GJH Siemers company in Hamburg, and his wife Susanne, née. Eckmeyer from Hamburg. He was married to Olga, born in 1904. Donner (1881–1965), daughter of the Imperial Corvette Captain Albert Donner and his wife Dora Mary Newman from London. The marriage resulted in a daughter and two sons, including the businessman and banker Kurt Hartwig Siemers (1907–1988).

Life path

Kurt Siemers attended the learned school of the Johanneum and the Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Hamburg. He studied law in Heidelberg (member of the Corps Rhenania ), Strasbourg and Berlin, became a trainee lawyer in his home town of Hamburg in 1897 and in Leipzig in the same year as a Dr. jur. PhD. In 1902 he passed his assessor exam. This was followed by trips to America and East Asia before he joined the company GJH Siemers & Co. (shipping company, bank and import) in Hamburg, founded in 1811 in 1904. After his father's death in 1918, he became the sole owner.

Siemers was a member of the supervisory board of Asbest- und Gummiwerke Alfred Calmon AG, Hansa Versicherungs-AG, Hanseatische Reederei AG , Luftschiffhallen AG, Deutsche Schauspielhaus AG and Zoo Exhibition Halls AG (all in Hamburg). In addition, he was involved in numerous public and church offices. He was a member of the church council at St. Jacobi in Hamburg and from 1936 until his death a member of the senior elders . He was also the chairman of the administrative committee of the Edmundsthal sanatorium founded by his father (Hamburgisches Krankenhaus Edmunsthal-Siemerswalde) in Geesthacht. In 1919 he founded the Edmund Siemers Foundation.
