The Kurushima ( Japanese 久留島氏 Kurushima-shi ) were a family of Japanese warrior class ( Buke ) from the province of Iyo , which derived from Kono Michiari († 1311). The Kurushima were among the smaller Tozama daimyos .

genealogy

  • Michifusa ( 通 総 ; 1561–1597) fought against Chōsokabe Motochika , who tried to take his domain from him. Then he submitted to Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1585 , who confirmed him in his possession Kurushima (now part of Imabari ) in the province of Iyo with 14,000 koku . At the time of the Korean campaign in 1592 he commanded a fleet of war junks , achieved some success and received the honorary title Izumo no kami . After the failure of the peace negotiations, he returned to Korea, where he was killed in action.
  • Nagachika ( 長 親 ; 1582-1612), a son of Michifusas, was transferred to Mori ( , now part of Kusu ) in the province of Bungo with 14,000 koku in 1601 . In 1619 the family changed the spelling of their name from the original 來 島 to 久留 島 . The Kurushima resided in Mori in a permanent house ( jin'ya ) until the Meiji Restoration in 1668.
