The short-haired Istrian hound (Istarski kratkodlaki gonič) is a breed of dogs from Croatia recognized by the FCI ( no. 151, size 6 sec. 1.2 ) .
Origin and history
The exact origin of this long-established hound can hardly be determined. This type is already depicted on frescoes (1474, Lady Chapel in Beram near Pazin ), paintings (including Titian , first half of the 18th century) and chronicles (1719, Bishop Bakić from Đakovo ). However, the stud book was opened late, as is so often the case with dogs that are used as a matter of course. The first entries date from 1924. In 1949 the FCI recognized it, but a standard was not published until 1973.

Short-haired Istrian bracken are up to 50 cm tall and 18 kg heavy hounds of "elegant" shape. The basic color of the fur is white with yellow-orange markings, the hair is short and fine. The saber-shaped tail is set high and thin. The hanging ears are medium to long and can be laid forward to the tip of the nose, but must be at least half as long.
