The short-tailed plump insect ( Isophya brevicauda ) is a long-feeler insect from the subfamily of the sickle horror (Phaneropterinae).
features
The animals reach a body length of 19 to 23 millimeters and are therefore slightly smaller than the very similar common plump insect ( Isophya kraussii ). The pronotum in the male is conspicuously saddle-shaped, in the rear it is widened angularly. The females differ from the similar species by their ovipositor , which is only 7 to 8 instead of 9 to 11 millimeters long. Other similar species are Isophya costata and Isophya modestior from the Eastern Alps, both of which are slightly larger than I. kraussii and I. brevicauda .
Occurrence and way of life
The short-tailed grasshopper occurs in Croatia , Slovenia and southern Austria and inhabits mountain meadows.
