Maybellene i Hofteholder ( Danish for Maybellene wears girdles ) is the sixth single by the Danish heavy metal band Volbeat . It is the first single from their third studio album Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood .
Emergence
The song was recorded in March and April 2008 at Hansen Studios in the Danish city of Ribe . Text and music were written by singer and guitarist Michael Poulsen . The album was produced by Jacob Hansen. Anders Pedersen ( Hawaiian and slide guitar ), Kristian Pedersen ( acoustic guitar ) and Jacob Hansen ( background vocals ) performed as guest musicians . A music video was shot for the song . You can see the band playing the song while the story of the song is shown at the beginning and at the end as a cartoon . However, the main part of the video is occupied by real people. Directed by Claus Vedel.

The song is about a male stalker who falls in love with the stripper Maybellene. She dances every Saturday in the bar in the fictional village "10 House City". The stalker sits at his table no. 45 every time. He learns that Maybellene is staying at the “Barbara Hotel ”. Every time he tries to visit her and knocks on her door, it won't open. One day the stalker starts a fire to lure her out of her room. Maybellene dies in the fire, but her body is never found.

Frank Albrecht from the German metal magazine Rock Hard described "Maybellene i Hofteholder" in his review of the album Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood as a "wonderful ear-flatterer". In contrast, according to Metal.de reviewer Andrea Friedrich, the song is a song that the band repeats and plays it safe.
The single entered the Danish single charts at number ninth on August 15, 2008 and reached the highest position a week later at number five. The single was in the charts for a total of twelve weeks, four of them in the top ten. This made Maybellene i Hofteholder the band's first top ten hit.
Volbeat received the "P3 Guld" award for the song from the Danish radio station DR P3 in the "Hit of the Year" category, which is voted by the station's listeners. The music video received a nomination in the “Video of the Year” category at the Danish Metal Awards . On November 18, 2010, the single received a gold record in Denmark .
