Dominus and Volbeat

In 1991 Poulsen was one of the founding members of the band Dominus. Dominus released four studio albums between 1994 and 2000, each of which differed greatly in style. In 2001, Poulsen left Dominus because he was tired of death metal music and the scene. At that time he had numerous musical ideas that he could not realize with Dominus. After Poulsen wrote five songs with a rock 'n' roll orientation, he formed the band Volbeat.

Volbeat's debut album The Strength / The Sound / The Songs reached number 18 on the Danish album charts. On April 22, 2006 Poulsen performed together with some of Elvis Presley's studio musicians in Copenhagen. In the same year Poulsen was nominated for the Steppe Elven Awards in the categories Singer of the Year and Composer of the Year . A year later, Volbeat's second album Rock the Rebel / Metal the Devil was released , which entered the Danish charts at number one and was awarded platinum . With the third Volbeat album Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood , the band also reached number one in the Danish charts. Poulsen received the Zulu Award for Best Danish Singer and was nominated for Best Singer at the Danish Music Awards .

On November 29, 2009, Poulsen collapsed during a concert in the Dutch city of Tilburg and had to be briefly treated in a hospital . The doctors found flu- like symptoms that Poulsen carried off during the tour. Poulsen had to take a few days off after the incident. The doctors diagnosed him with burnout syndrome , which can be traced back to a sleep disorder that Poulsen has suffered from since childhood.

Poulsen continued to be successful with Volbeat. The fourth album Beyond Hell / Above Heaven received double platinum in Denmark and platinum in Germany and Austria. The fifth work Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies reached number one in the album charts in six countries and was honored with platinum in Denmark and Austria. In 2016 the sixth studio album with Volbeat Seal The Deal & Let's Boogie was released , which reached number one in the album charts in Poulsen's home country Denmark, as well as in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
