Dominus ( lat. "Lord") was a death metal band from the Danish city of Ringsted . The band existed between 1991 and 2001 and released four studio albums.
history
The band was founded in 1991 by singer and guitarist Michael Poulsen . After the band was complete with guitarist Morton Saxtorph, bassist Butch Christensen and drummer Jess Larsen, Dominus recorded their first self-titled demo . With Ambrosius Locus and Astaroth , two more demos will follow in the next two years. The single Sidereal Path of Colors was released in 1993 via the Greek record company Molon Lave . Eventually Dominus are signed by Progress Records.
In March 1995, appeared with View to the Dim the debut album of the band. After several line-up changes, the second album The First Nine followed a year later , on which the band combined their death metal sound with elements of rock 'n' roll . In 1997 the third album Vol.Beat followed , which was released on the Diehard label. Musically, the influences of rock music of the 1950s are placed even more in the foreground. After a long break and further changes in the band's line-up, Godfallos was finally released in 2000, the band's last album.
Although Dominus received good reviews for their last album, Michael Poulsen broke up the band because he was tired of the death metal scene and the employees of the Diehard record company. Poulsen then founded the band Volbeat , which became one of the most successful Danish rock bands in the late 2000s. Anders Nielsen - who now bears the name Anders Kjølholm - is also active at Volbeat. Franz Gottschalk was active with Volbeat between 2002 and 2006 before he had to leave the band. He later joined the band Illdisposed . The other musicians no longer appeared.
