The songs "Pool of Booze, Booze, Booza", "Soulweeper", "Danny & Lucy (11pm)" and "Alienized" come from Beat the Meat - demo , which was recorded also in the Hansen Studio in October of 2003. The five songs were re-recorded for the album. The sixth song of the demo "Boa" was re-recorded for the second Volbeat album Rock the Rebel / Metal the Devil .

The album was produced and mixed by Jacob Hansen . The album should actually be called Rebel Monster and appear on "New Aeon Media", a sub-label of Karmageddon Media. All texts were written by Michael Poulsen . The music was written by Michael Poulsen and Volbeat. "I Only Wanna Be with You" was written by Mike Hawker and Ivor Raymonde and is a cover version of a Dusty Springfield hit from 1963. Michael Poulsen and Jon Larsen started playing the song one day in the rehearsal room. After the other band members were enthusiastic about the result, the band began to play the song live.

The "Fire Song" and "Danny & Lucy (11pm)" are about a young couple. Danny is 28 years old and a drug addict , his girlfriend Lucy is 16 years old. In the first song both flee from Lucy's parents. In the second song, the two have an accident with their car. The story is continued on the following album Rock the Rebel / Metal the Devil with the song "Mr & Mrs Ness", Lucy's parents. The lyrics of "Caroline # 1" consist exclusively of Elvis Presley song titles and are based on the Presley song "Sweet Caroline". In this way, Michael Poulsen pays tribute to one of his idols. Poulsen wrote the song “Always, Wu” for a friend who almost died of cancer .

According to Poulsen, the album title has no deeper meaning. The strength ( Engl. : The strength ) stands for the hard work that has made the band. The sound (Engl .: The sound ) is that Volbeat have found their sound. The songs (Engl .: The songs ) is that the listener can sing along to the songs.
