Emergence

The song Lola Montez was written in 2012 and was written by singer Michael Schøn Poulsen and the band. The eponymous Lola Montez was an Irish dancer who became famous as the mistress of King Ludwig I of Bavaria . In an interview, Poulsen described her as "an interesting person who was definitely notorious".

“She was very controversial, but at the same time very pretty and all men fell for her. She is a very interesting person. "

- Michael Schøn Poulsen

The band Lola Montez played live for the first time in June 2013 when Volbeat performed at the Rock am Ring music festival . The performance was recorded and published as a music video . On June 17, 2013, Lola Montez was released as a single by Vertigo Records .

reception

For Frank Albrecht from the German magazine Rock Hard , Lola Montez is “a number that is strongly tailored to the mainstream market”, but “still a good song with a fine hook line ”. For Andreas Schiffmann from the online magazine Musikreviews, however, "Poulsen's Danzig - Elvis dumplings with a Hetfield punch" is annoying, especially with Lola Montez .

The single reached number 84 on the Dutch Singles Chart and number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart.

In March 2014, the single was awarded a gold record in Denmark . Lola Montez was nominated for Best Rock Song at the 2013 Loudwire Music Awards , but the award went to Avenged Sevenfold for the song Hail to the King .
