Lonesome Rider ( engl. Lone Reiter ) is a song of the Danish Metal band Volbeat . It was the third single from their fifth studio album, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies .

Emergence

The song Lonesome Rider was written in 2012 and written by singer Michael Schøn Poulsen and guitarist Rob Caggiano . Musically, the song combines metal with country and western music. The Canadian Sarah Blackwood from the band Walk off the Earth and the double bass player Jakob Øelund from the band Taggy Tones appear as guest vocalists . Michael Schøn Poulsen explained in an interview with the online magazine Ultimate Guitar that he actually doesn't think much of the voices of white female singers, as they mostly sound the same and that he prefers the voices of black female singers.

A music video was shot for the song in which Michael Schøn Poulsen and Sarah Blackwood appear. It was shot as a black and white film and shows Poulsen as the Grim Reaper and Blackwood transporting a coffin on a carriage . Jakob Printzlau aka PlasticKid directed and wrote the script for the video. The single was released on October 28, 2013 via Vertigo Records . On April 19, 2014 published Spinefarm Records in the UK , a 10 "single on the occasion of Record Store Day . Here was Lonesome Rider , the B-side , while the A-side of the song Doc Holliday contained. The single was released on gold vinyl and was limited to 500 copies.

reception

For Katrin Riedl from the German magazine Metal Hammer , Lonesome Rider is one of the highlights of the album. According to Heiko Eschenbach from the online magazine Metal.de, Lonesome Rider looks like an unspectacular attempt by a Nashville-style country rocker. The single reached number eight in the Danish single charts . In March 2014, the single was awarded a gold record in Denmark .
