The Devil's Bleeding Crown is a song by the Danish metal band Volbeat . It is the first single from their sixth studio album, Seal the Deal & Let's Boogie .

Emergence

According to guitarist Rob Caggiano, the song is based on a riff that was created during their North American tour with Anthrax in spring 2015. During the tour, the band played excerpts of the song again and again at concerts, but never the entire song. According to the singer Michael Schøn Poulsen , the band wanted to test and experience the effect of the song on stage. According to Poulsen, this would be enough to find out whether the song will be further elaborated or discarded.

The recordings took place under the direction of producer Jacob Hansen in the Hansen Studios in Ribe , Denmark . On August 1, 2015, the band played the entire song live for the first time at their concert in Odense, Denmark . The single was finally released on April 8, 2016 by Vertigo Records . A music video was released a month later, directed by the Plastic Kid .

reception

According to Florian Zandt from the German magazine Visions , the song would “ squint with one eye in the direction of the stoner- infected hard rock by Red Fang and treat itself to an extravagant metal solo”. Furthermore, "the song captivates over its entire length with the characteristic vocal performance of Michael Poulsen and a shuffled drum groove".

The single reached number 61 in the Austrian and number 81 in the German single charts. The American online magazine Loudwire put The Devil's Bleeding Crown at number ten on their list of the 20 best rock songs of 2016. The German magazine Powermetal.de voted The Devil's Bleeding Crown the seventh best song of the year.

At the Loudwire Music Awards 2016 , the song took seventh place in the Best Rock Song category .
