Sad Man's Tongue is the third single from the Danish heavy metal band Volbeat . It is the first single from their second studio album Rock the Rebel / Metal the Devil .

Emergence

The song was recorded in October 2006 at Hansen Studios in the Danish city of Ribe . Text and music were written by singer and guitarist Michael Poulsen . The album was produced by Jacob Hansen . Several guest musicians performed during the recordings. Rod Sinclair played the banjo and contributed a guitar solo. Martin Pagaard Wolff played the acoustic and Anders Pedersen the Hawaiian guitar .

While writing the song, Poulsen improvised a little on the song "Folsom Prison Blues" by his idol Johnny Cash . At times Poulsen thought about a cover version of his band. However, Poulsen rejected this idea because the idea was too banal for him. The single contains the song "Soulweeper # 2" as the B-side , but could not book a chart position.

background

In an interview, Poulsen stated that the song refers to the 1950s when parents warned their children about all sorts of things. As an example, he cited his idol Elvis Presley , whose mother always ran after him on the way to school to take care of him. A music video was shot for the song , which shows the band in a live situation.
