The Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs are music charts from Billboard Magazine that list pieces from the music genres mainstream and active rock according to the number of radio transmissions.

history

The Billboard Rock Albums & Top Tracks were first released on March 21, 1981. Since many American rock radio stations played pieces that were not released as singles, a hit parade should be created that lists tracks according to the number of their radio transmissions. Billboard employee Mike Harrison said that thanks to the mainstream rock songs chart, "[...] more than one song from an album can now be known". ("[…] More than one song from the album can become popular.") The first number one placement was the song I Can't Stand It by Eric Clapton .
