The Kusema ( Russian Кузема ) is a river in the north of the Republic of Karelia in Russia .

It drains the lake Nizhneie Kumosero ( Нижнее Кумозеро ) in an easterly direction. It crosses the M18 trunk road at this point. It flows over a distance of 62.5 km in a predominantly eastward direction to the White Sea . It overcomes numerous rapids and flows through Lake Kutno ( озеро Кутно ). The mouth is located at the eponymous settlement Kusema . The Kusema is navigable by canoe .

The catchment area of the Kusema covers 884 km² and borders on the Wonga in the north and on the Pongoma in the south .
