The Taluk Kuthalam ( Tamil : குத்தாலம் வட்டம் ) is a Taluk (sub-district) of the Nagapattinam district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . The main town is the eponymous city of Kuthalam . The Taluk Kuthalam has around 130,000 inhabitants (2011 census).

The Taluk Kuthalam is located in the northern half of the Nagapattinam district in the eastern Kaveri Delta . The area of ​​the Taluk is traversed by several branches of the mouth of the Kaveri flowing in a west-east direction. From north to south these are the Kaveri main arm, the Manjalar , the Veeracholan and the Nattar .

The Taluk Kuthalam borders in the north on the Taluk Mayiladuthurai , in the east on the Taluk Tharangambadi (both Nagapattinam district), in the south on the taluks Nannilam and Kodavasal ( Tiruvarur district ) and in the west on the taluks Kumbakonam and Thiruvidaimarudur ( Thanjavur district ).

According to the 2011 census, the Taluk Kuthalam has 131,948 inhabitants. 12 percent of the population lives in cities, 88 percent in rural areas. 86 percent of the residents of Taluk Kuthalam are Hindus , 10 percent are Muslims and 4 percent are Christians .
