The Taluk Thiruvidaimarudur ( Tamil : திருவிடைமருதூர் வட்டம் ) is a Taluk ( sub- district) of the Thanjavur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . The main town is the eponymous city of Thiruvidaimarudur . The Taluk Thiruvidaimarudur has around 230,000 inhabitants.
geography
The Taluk Thiruvidaimarudhur is located in the Kaveri Delta in the Thanjavur district. The area of the Taluk is bounded in the north by the Kollidam , the northernmost estuary of the Kaveri River, and is traversed by several estuary branches of the Kaveri flowing in a west-east direction. From north to south these are the Manniyar , the Palavar , the Kaveri Main Arm, the Veeracholan and the Nattar .
Thiruvidaimarudur is the easternmost taluk of the Thanjavur district. It borders in the southwest on the Taluk Kumbakonam (district Thanjavur), in the northwest on the Taluk Udaiyarpalayam ( district Ariyalur ), in the north on the Taluk Kattumannarkoil ( district Cuddalore ) and in the east on the taluks Mayiladuthurai and Kuthalam (both districts ) Nagapattinam .

According to the 2011 census, the Taluk Thiruvidaimarudur has 231,151 inhabitants. 26 percent of the population lives in cities, 74 percent in rural areas. 88 percent of the residents of the Taluk Thiruvidaimarudur are Hindus , 9 percent are Muslims and 3 percent are Christians . As in all of Tamil Nadu, the main language is Tamil , which according to the 2001 census is spoken by 98 percent of the population as their mother tongue.

The Kaveri Delta, to which the Taluk Thiruvidaimarudur belongs, is a region rich in culture and history with a high density of important Hindu temples. From an architectural point of view, the Kampaharesvara Temple of Tirubuvanam , which dates back to the late 12th century, should be highlighted. It is one of the most important buildings of Chola architecture. But also in many other towns and villages of the Taluk Thiruvidaimarudur there are numerous old Hindu temples. 12 of the 274 holy places of Tamil Shaivism ( Padal Petra Sthalams ) are in the taluk. These are the temples of Pandanallur , Kanjanur , Thirukodikaval , Thirumangalagudi , Thiruppanandal , Thiruvayppadi , Senganur , Tirundudevankudi , Thiruvisainallur , Thiruvidaimarudur , Aduthurai and Thiruneelakudi . In Thiruvalliyangudi also is one of the 108 Vishnuite sanctuaries ( Divya Desams ).
In addition, in the Taluk Thiruvidaimarudur there are two of the nine Navagraha temples , a group of temples dedicated to the Hindu planetary deities . These are the temple of Sooriyanarkoil , in which the personified sun ( Surya ) is venerated, and the Shiva temple of Kanjanur, which houses a secondary shrine for Venus ( Shukra ).
