The Hinterstein Carriage Museum near Bad Hindelang in the Allgäu is not far from the Ostrach mountain stream in the village of Hinterstein . The museum is an outwardly inconspicuous wooden shed. Various art objects, wind chimes and other sound bodies in all sizes as well as a candle-lit artificial grotto can be found in the garden.

The building is divided into several small departments that are connected to one another. There are many mirrors on the walls, while mirror balls rotate on the ceiling and amplify the visual stimuli. The atmosphere within the museum is supported by uninterrupted soft music; visitors are advised not to speak in the museum.

A wide variety of sledges and carriages with life-size clothed mannequins are on display . The respective scenes are adorned with various prepared animals such as wolf , fox , horse , bear . Branches and stones were also used as accessories. Artificial snow makes the respective scenery even more realistic. One of the most valuable and magnificent exhibits in the museum is an old hearse from Bohemia .

The museum was built by Martin Weber (born 1962), who brought together the exhibits from across Europe and kept changing the arrangements. Critics complain that the unprofessional presentation means that the museum's exhibits are being destroyed and that the need for kitsch and bizarre rather than information is taken into account.

After a new building, it was reopened after two and a half years.
