The Kuxburg , also known as Kucksburg , is an abandoned spur castle on a rock spur at the eastern end of the Teufelsmauer near Timmenrode in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt . The disused railway line Blankenburg – Quedlinburg passes directly below the northern rock face .
investment
The area has been inhabited since the Stone Age. It is assumed that it primarily served as a fortified observation point - the view extends to the Hamburg coat of arms and to Regenstein Castle . The terrain slopes down on three sides, sometimes almost vertically. Some rocks were left as parapets during the leveling .
There is no documentary mention of the probably early medieval castle, only the field names Holz Kukesburch (1265/1285) and juxta Cukesborch (1284) have survived.
The castle probably served as waiting for the service of the counts of Regenstein standing ministerials of Mordorf .
