from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kvarnkärret is a moor on the Swedish island of Öland in the Baltic Sea .

The flat fen stretches along road 136 south of Kastlösa . The Stora Alvaret extends to the east and north .

There are clear silting tendencies in the bog . In the last decades of the 20th century, for example, the proportion of open water bodies decreased. Dense stands of stiff sedge dominate . In the direction of the Alvar , the moor turns into Vätar . Here prevail Scorpio moss and one Pelzige bulrush before. On the east side of the area, a birch forest is advancing , which has settled on the soils overgrown with shrub fingerweed .

The number of bird species that occur depends on the water situation. Teal ducks , black terns and ruffs can be seen in wet springs.
