The Kyorin University ( Jap. 杏林大学 , Kyorin Daigaku ) is a private university in Tokyo , Japan .

As of May 1, 2014, 4,526 students were studying with 1001 teachers at the university, with one professor for every 1.7 students in the Faculty of Medicine in particular, or a ratio of almost 1: 1, including the guest and honorary lecturers. The university also includes the Kyōrin University Hospital with 1153 beds, 593 doctors and 1357 nurses and a technical school ( semmon gakkō ) for nursing with 345 students.

history

The story goes back to the Mitaka-Shinkawa Hospital (now Kyōrin University Hospital) founded in 1953 by Shin'yū Matsuda ( 松田 進 勇 ). In 1966 the Kyōrin-Gakuen-Kurzhochschule was founded, today's Faculty of Health Sciences. In 1970 the Faculty of Medicine was set up and it was elevated to a full university. The Faculty of Health Sciences was established in 1979, followed by the Faculty of Social Sciences in 1984 and the Faculty of Foreign Languages ​​in 1988.
