The Kyffhäuser racetrack is a temporary racetrack in the southern Harz in Saxony-Anhalt , on which mountain races were held until 2009 .

history

At the beginning of the 1950s, the so-called Kyffhäuser hill climb was held for the first time on the race track . The length of the racetrack at that time was 4.897 km.

Further hill climbs were held between 1980 and 1989 on the now three-kilometer route.

From 1999 to 2000 the route was shortened to 2.7 km. From 2001 to 2009 races were held on the now 3.825 km long hill climb course.

Route

The start is in Kelbra . From there, the racetrack runs along federal highway 85 to the finish at the Kyffhäuser monument . The 3.8 km long route has 36 curves and an average gradient of 10%. Around 300 m difference in altitude is overcome from start to finish.
