Wilhelm Eben

Wilhelm Paul Eben (born January 4, 1849 in Schlagenthin ; † December 3, 1924 ) was a Prussian officer , most recently lieutenant general .

He was the son of Karl Eben, manor owner and knighthood councilor on Schlagenthin, and his wife Franziska, née von Missbach (born March 1, 1822).

Military career

On June 13, 1866 , coming from the cadet corps , he was transferred as portepee - ensign to the Emperor Franz Garde Grenadier Regiment No. 2 of the Prussian Army in Berlin . In the German War he fought with this in the battle near Alt-Rognitz and the Battle of Königgrätz . He was promoted to second lieutenant on July 31, 1866. From October 6, 1868 to October 15, 1871 he was adjutant of the III. Battalions in the 2nd Guards Grenadier Landwehr Regiment No. 2 in Düsseldorf . In the Franco-Prussian War he took part in the siege of Strasbourg , the enclosure and the defeat of Paris , and the skirmishes at Soor , Celles and Raon-l'Étape . He was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on April 13, 1872. From June 12 to 21, 1877, he was entrusted with the management of a training company for the patient carriers .

While being promoted to captain , Eben was transferred to the 6th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 95 in Gotha on May 13, 1879 and appointed company commander. From November 5th to 28th, 1888, he was assigned to hold the autumn control attempt in the district of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th companies of the Meiningen Landwehr Battalion . Under position à la suite of his regiment, he was given leave of absence for one year from May 22, 1889. He was promoted to the surplus major on January 16, 1890, and on March 24 he was transferred to the oldest captain's position. He was appointed battalion commander on February 21, 1891. To participate in a General Staff trip of the XI. Army corps from Kassel from July 22nd to August 4th, 1894, he was detached.

When he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , Eben was transferred to the 2nd Hanseatic Infantry Regiment No. 76 and made a regular staff officer. As such, he was on an information course at the infantry shooting school in Spandau from April 1 to 13, 1897 . With promotion to colonel , Eben was transferred to the infantry regiment "Duke Karl von Mecklenburg-Strelitz" (6th East Prussian) No. 43 stationed in Königsberg and Pillau on May 24, 1898 , and was appointed regimental commander. On October 18, 1901, he was commissioned to lead the 79th Infantry Brigade in Paderborn . When he was promoted to major general , he was named their commander.

On June 18, 1903, Eben was put up for disposal with the statutory pension in approval of his resignation . For his 50th anniversary in the military service, he was given the character of lieutenant general in 1916 .

Wilhelm Eben died, almost 76 years old, on December 3, 1924. He was buried in Cemetery III of the Jerusalem and New Churches in Berlin-Kreuzberg . The grave has not been preserved.
