Kypselids

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kypseliden were a noble family from Corinth . They represented from 657/6 - 582/1 BC. The ruling tyrant . Kypselos , the progenitor of the family, was a son of the Labda, who came from the ruling aristocratic family of the Bakchiads . Kypselus drove out the Bakchiads and established a tyranny over Corinth. With the assassination of Psammetich , the rule of the Kypselid came to an abrupt end. The choice of his non-Greek name Psammetich is seen as evidence of a close friendship between the Kypselids and the Egyptian royal family.

The Kypseliden came from the Demos Petra, which was in the southeast of Corinthia .
