Làng Hữu Nghị (dt. Village of Friendship ) is a newly built village in Vietnam . There people are cared for who suffer from the health effects of the defoliant agent Agent Orange , which was used by the US military in the Vietnam War . It was founded by the Vietnam War veteran and peace activist George Mizo as an international reconciliation project. War veterans from different countries were involved in the construction. In 1998 the village was inaugurated after six years of construction.

It is located on National Road 70, on the western outskirts of Hanoi in the former rural Hoài Đức district of the capital.

The focus of the work is the care and support of children and young people with physical and mental disabilities . In the Village of Friendship, they receive medical and therapeutic care, instruction and, according to their abilities, training in manual work. Around 120 children and young people live in the Village of Friendship at the same time. The length of stay is 2 to 3 years. An outpatient advice center offers diagnostics, advice and therapeutic support for children with developmental delays from the surrounding area.

In addition, war veterans are cared for in the Village of Friendship , who come to the Village of Friendship for several months to relax, during which they are also given medical and therapeutic care.

In addition to several residential buildings, the village of friendship includes u. a. a clinic , a school , workshops and a house for physiotherapy .

The village is financed by donations collected by support groups in Germany , France , Japan , Canada and the USA as well as funds from the Vietnamese state. The management of the village is subordinate to the Vietnamese Veterans Association.

The German Development Service supports the village by sending skilled workers, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development supported the construction of buildings.

The documentary Lighter than Orange was shot largely in Làng Hữu Nghị.
