Låvebrua Island (from Norwegian låvebrua 'barn ramp ' ; in Argentina Islote Chaco ) is a small island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located 1.1 km east of South Point on Deception Island .
The British navigator Henry Foster mapped them during his Antarctic voyage with the HMS Chanticleer, which lasted from 1828 to 1831 . Norwegian whalers gave it its descriptive name around 1927. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee translated this into English in 1959. The name giver of the Argentine name is the ship Chaco , which was used several times in Argentine Antarctic expeditions from 1945 to 1950.
