The South Point is, as the name translates, the southern tip of Deception Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located 2.8 km southwest of the Entrance Point . Låvebrua Island lies 1.1 km to the east .
The British navigator Henry Foster mapped them during his Antarctic voyage with the HMS Chanticleer, which lasted from 1828 to 1831 . The hydrographic department of the British Admiralty named them in the course of surveys that were carried out between 1948 and 1949 under the direction of Lieutenant Commander David Neil Penfold (1913-1991).
